Here you have shot 2 again, I'm not satisfied with it, I find it hard to make the wings flap on a birds perspective.

Shot 1

Shot1! You'll just have to imagine a background :D

shot 2 + shot8.2 HappyKidsCloseUp

Hello everyone here you have the animation with qlean lines, the movement of the fish must be more slower and more in the middle and the birds feathers look rather freaky o___O

And here you have the clean lines close-up shot of the baby bird in colours, I haven't really coloured it nicely because I was wondering if this was the right colour that Florian prescripted.

I now see that the other video wasn't in my latest message, sorry for that

animation meeting

For everybody. I invite the animators for a animation meeting. Cause they are all dutch i wrote it in dutch too. So tomorrow we wil meet to talk over the detail animation of the film. This evening I wil finish the rough MovStoryboard:

Hey Dames :) ,

shot 6: script for the animation

How I told you I have a little script change for shot 6 which is Karin is going to move.

First a brief list what should happend:
1. See only the backgound.
1.1 In the lower part of the shot you see the heads from the children sleeping
2. You see a shadow of a bird landing in the entrance of the cave. You dont see the fish in his beak.
3. After a short pause he turns his head so that you can see the fish in his mouth.
3.1 The bird fidget a bit in his mouth
3.2 The Big is making to steps towards the children with the fish in his beak
4. Because of this the bird in the middle turns his head

I think this should fit with the animation in shot 7_HappyKids (medium happyness) and also leeds to shot_8 (Maximum happyness :D) of the little birds

Here is the background for the rough animation:

shot 5: background animated

here is the effect i was looking for the water :) After 3 hours after effects i found one solution i think :)

>>> DEADLINE!

22. September 2010.

The film must be ready cause the it's shown on german local television.
My plan is to finish the rough animation storyboard begin next week to have 3 weeks of pure animation and matching background with foreground.

For this im now prepairing the backgrounds for the animations.
Marian should go on working on the music theme cause after we finished the rough animation storyboard, timing isnt not going to be changed anymore.

Karin and Gladys should finished with the rough animation scenes before saturday. So I can attach them to the backgrounds

The faster we finish te normal tasks the more we can work on the "effects" --> beter presentation on the TV for us!

shot 3

Well how about this then :) I know you said to place the surprise look after the reflection, but it fit better to do it the other way around.

I don't know about the length. Storyboard time for this shot was very short... This is about 5 sec, but it can be shortened if you cut the blink. I like the blink though, for some reason

(seems that internet hates me today. I tried uploading it to youtube through 2 different browser and to blogger; neither works... I guess I'll try again tomorrow. Sorry guys!)

Monday, August 23, 2010

I'll just put a couple of versions up here :) ... the more I see that headturn, the less I like it

Last one is best I think

critics

Yo,

i'm worrying about my critic comments cause sometimes im too hard with this. I want to say if I say so many things to you I don't want that you are going crazy about this or losing the motivation for this project. My intention is that it gonna be a great clip in the end were everybody is  proud of! Today I had another idea. If we finished this film we can also sent it to shortfilm contests if you all agree with that. One advantage is that we can work on the film also after the deadline in september to finish it very wel.

So I really appreciate that you all spent your free time to work on this and I hope you enjoy the result in the end :)

Greets

flo
.... I'm really at a complete loss with this. I tried changing the bird's expression for spotting the fish (narrowing the eyes, widening the eyes...) but I can't get it to work. Maybe I could try turning the birds head.

I ended up adding a short flash of the fish swimming (perhaps just a splashing sound works too) and just doing a short zoom on the eye to indicate that the bird has spotted the fish. The shot ended up being a bit longer than in the moving storyboard because I felt that we needed some more time to look at the bird with the fish breaking the shot in half. This would of course be solved by removing the fish...

Any ideas? What do you guys think of the fish?

Shot 7: Rough animation

I'll make a couple of versions for this one, I especially dislike how the middle chick turned out. Tomorrow I'll post shot 2 again and a couple of versions of shot 7.

shot 9: impale rough animation

I had some difficulties with the rough animation cause i had 2 different solutions for this shot in mind.

First idea was to add a moment of confusing to the bird. he hears one time a hit of a hammer goes in attentionpostion and after a short while he gets hit by the pale. Pros about this solution the solution is that the movements of the bird are getting more comprehensible and the connection between the first position and the end position( jesus position :D ) is plausible. The very very big contra point is, that we have to change the movstoryboard a bit AAAND I think we loosing a bit of this surprising effect. There is still a suprise but its signalized by the first hammer hit:

The second solution is the direct hit solution without any kind of prepairing moment. Pro we keep the moving storyboard timing and the surpising moment in its full strengh.
Contra: The movements are difficult to understand. (Why does the bird get in this end position ? )

I have here two different  versions. In the first i tryed to get the bird directly in the JesusPose in the second i try to solve the problem with a between pose. First he gets hit by the pale and after that life is leaving his body and he becomes rigid( fish fells out his beak)

Second solution here:

Now I need your advise :) please help! What should we do?

characters

I try to draw our kingfisher how he should look like in the animated scenes. Important is the balance between simplifying and identification as kingsfisher.

To going fast foward in animation it should be simplified but I would also like to show the beautiful feather pattern the kingfisher has. So for normal shots I suggest we should work with this outlines and fill it later on with this beatiful watercolour pattern the kingfisher has on his head.(in After Effects)

The only closeup of (shot3) it should maybe be more detailed (karin is working on this shot :) ).
So I would like to have your opinions and maybe your suggestions as a scetch.

New versions

Hey guys,
i thinks its better if we have for new versions new posts and not the old ones replaced. Cause we're getting confused if we add the other shots too. Thank you and keep on commenting :)

shot 5: rough animation v02

I also did something for shot 5:

After the bird hits the water surface i want that the shot runs in slowmotion, so i can add very much water details and have time to show how amazing the nature can be. So i think i have to slow this part more down and let the bird dont reach the fish exactly. This is also good cause, then we can use in the following scene more the surpricing moment after the bird turns his head to let the children the fish see.

What do you guys think?! over the shottiming?

Tomorrow I have to work at the shakespear festival so I cant react in the morning.

shot 2: rough animation

Okeee....After 5 attempts at uploading the scene it still doesn't work, help anyone...
I get an error saying after more then a ten minute wait that the video can't be uploaded, the scene is 132 mb.
The text below was what I was wondering about the scene(need the vid to know what I mean T.T):
(This is a really rough sketch of the second scene, mostly because I was contemplating if the bird needs to have a wider cirkel or not and when the bird ''lands'' if the timing is right with the beginning of the river, I think its better if the bird starts gliding right before the river expands, what do you think? Tomorrow I'll post the scene in its whole and with more inbetweens.)

Friday, August 13, 2010

Hey Guys.

Here are some rough versions of some scores. It was important, that there is a raise of the music. So take a look and comment it.

Hey everyone!
First rough shot. I think there might be a little more time needed between the kingfisher landing and the fish jumping. Not sure though... any ideas?

 (updated with new version 2)

Okay, here's the vid with the 'restmoment', for comparison!

Anyhow, let me know if anything needs to be changed!

shot 2: background

Hey gladys, hey guys,

here is the background rough moved through the scene. The first 3-4 seconds I left this time to animate the bird in a circle like in the animation board shown. The bird should fly this cirle and then head to the center to go on flying. As you notice I variate the speed the bird flys along the river sometimes a little. Great would be if you deal with that in your 1 animation scetch :)

To download the quicktime content please click here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/412581740/Shot2_River.mov

In this content I left out the motion blur, so you can easier animate in TV paint :)

Have fun :) questions? --> please comment :)

animation impressions

I found this maybe it it later helpful to have some references for detailed working on the birdsfly.

shot 1: background

hey guys, hey karin,

here is the background where you can work with and do the first rough animation. I had an idea additional to the animation board. What about if in the moment when the bird lands on the branch there is a little fish that jumps in the right corner out of the water and  back into it again. The bird sees that fish  and then he flies after him like in the animation board. Then we have a reason why he is heading this direction.
We can also use the idea of the fish as a shadow in the shots 3.

the black frame in the picture is the 16:9 size of the film later.

Please animate the fish and the bird in seperate layers so we can export them seperately an I can fit it in AE in the animated background. Also we dont need a very detaild animation it is enough to animate 2 circles.
Please comment in any case wether you like it or not or if you have any questions :)
Thank you.

first background test

Stan has sent me the first background layers.
I spontaniously merged them and add a sort paper background. That was the style for the background I was searching for. Great Job. What thinks the rest about that?

brief overview

First I wanna give you all a rough overview about the following steps we have to do to finish the film. You all have seen the moving storyboard we finished.

1 STEP:
Stan is now painting the background layers which I can merge and can animate a bit.

With the shot overview list, I'm doing yet, the animators can begin with the blocking animations (red line animations). If this is done we can merge the first backgrounds with animated bird and can test out whether there are some improvements to do (Backgrounds + Animation)

Parallel to this Marian is creating the music in the style we have in the storyboard, so we don't getting any problems with the licences. He can also design the music and sounds that are more fitting to the film.

2. STEP:
If the Backgrounds are totally ready and the birds roughly animated we can merge it together with the new music. We cut again our rough animated bird and correct for the second time the timing for the different shots. So the animators can do the right detailed animation of the outlines and work the movements out.
Also music can drop now exactly to the scenes. In this step we can also add some sounds.

3. STEP:
After we doing that, just a few only few things has to be done:

Animated bird has to be filled in with color. I have already a plan so that it fits with the backgrounds(i have to test it, when the first shot detailed animation is ready.

4. STEP:
If we have time left:

Adding effects (underwater, water, splatter, splashes, watercolor)
Adding more sounds
Maybe some background animations
Correct some backgrounds that arent totally in the watercolor style

The hole film has to be done before the 23th of september!!!
So, let's move!

If there are any question you can always contact me!

welcome to the team

Hey guys,

here it is! Our blog to communicate over the project: biotop obererft. On this page you'll find important information over developement of the film. You're invited to post your result, to ask for help or anything else but also to give critic or improvement suggestions so anybody has an overview over the project and can participate in the progress of it.

The blog language should be english cause we have a international team, hell yeah!
I hope you enjoy to be a part of it!
